How To Raise Your Consciousness & Lead The Most Epic Life Possible
Whatever the F that means...
If you spend a lot of time online, then sooner or later you’ll come across this map of consciousness scale:
And more often than not… the person bringing the scale to your attention will do it in such a way that’ll you come away thinking that:
The core takeaway is that there is one person inside you that lives somewhere on this scale.
And the “goal” is to move up levels from the bottom of the scale to the top of the scale, so you can “raise your consciousness” (whatever the F that means) and lead a more epic life.
But in truth?
That’s bullshit.
Personally speaking:
I think the scale can be useful (to a degree), but I’ve never really liked it.
Or used it.
(What I have used is the Levels of Energy scale (which is somewhat similar), but not for spiritual purposes… but marketing/business purposes. In short: The products, tweets, books, music, content etc. that sells the most
is always catered to people who live on a 200-300 energy level. If you create an offer and wonder "Why didn't this sell?" Then it’s likely: You created a 400 level product for 200 level people.)
But with that stated:
A lot of people do F with this scale and actively try to use it.
If that’s you, then here’s the “weird” trick I would use to apply this scale and reap maximum value:
Step 1. Don’t view yourself as ONE, but many.
The mistake many people make is they falsely assume that there is only ONE PERSON that lives inside them.
Now this is true when you experience yourself without ego (and recognize yourself to be the very Presence of Reality), but when you live in ego or personality or what I call the character…
There actually isn’t one inside you, but many.
For instance:
One version of you wants to wake up at 5 am and put in 4 hours of deep work on a meaningful project, so you set the alarm and feel so excited to get your life off the ground as you fade off to sleep.
Then the alarm goes off at 5 am.
And another version of you wakes up to it. This version feels tired, comfortable and not excited to wake up and get after it.
So what do you do?
If you listen to this version, you go back to sleep.
What happened there?
If there was only one person inside you, then the person who set the alarm would be the same person who wakes up to it – right?
But it’s not because there’s not one version aka self image inside you, but many. So recognize this and see it clearly in your own life.
Doing so will help you realize that the reason you suffer so much is because there’s so many different versions inside you with contradictory wills.
One version wants to do x, another version wants to do y.
This creates an inner civil war, so you’re constantly tinkering and tweaking and forcing and judging and manipulating.
With that being said:
Seeing this (although it can be somewhat jarring and like you have multiple personality disorder – I think we lowkey all do to some degree) is actually liberating.
Normally we don’t see this.
So all these versions run us from the unconscious.
But when you shed light on this, you start to realize:
“HOOOOOOOOOLD THE F UP… all this time I thought there was only one person inside me, but that’s not true. There’s actually so many different versions living inside me. The 5 year old that loved to draw is still inside me. The 10 year old that was angry at mom and dad is still inside me. The 15 year old pissed off/rebellious teenager is still inside me…”
And so on and so forth.
–
Once you recognize this, then move onto the next step.
Step 2. Recognize that each version inside you lives on different parts of the map of consciousness scale.
The version of you that sees a cute girl at the coffee shop and wants to say “hi” probably lives higher up in courage.
But the version of you that makes you not do it because “there’s so many people around and you don’t want anybody to hear you” probably lives somewhere lower in shame.
Recognizing this is the “weird” trick to using the scale.
Because now instead of viewing yourself as one person that lives somewhere on the scale, you now realize that there are multiple versions of you that live all over this scale.
Some versions are stuck in shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, and pride.
Other versions are living in courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, and reason.
And even more, there is a part of you (aka your deeper depths/spiritual nature) that already lives in love, joy, peace, and enlightenment (believe it or not).
With that being said:
The point of this second step is to realize that YOU do not live on the scale, but the SCALE lives inside YOU.
–
Once you recognize this, then move onto the next step.
Step 3. Recognize that the versions that live lower on the scale are past-oriented aka the child you (stuck in survival), the versions that live in the middle are future-oriented aka the adult you (operating with reason & integrity), the versions that live at the top are now-oriented aka the real you (greater spiritual dimensions beyond ego).
This will help you simplify and clarify (and potentially save your life).
Moreover:
If you’re smart and can read between the lines (which you are and you can), you’ll realize that all “performance issues” (like laziness and procrastination and going on benders when you said you wouldn’t) is usually due to the child you overtaking and running the adult you.
ANDDDDDDDDDD
All “spiritual issues” (like feeling empty and worthless or rich and depressed) is usually due to the adult you overtaking and running the spiritual aka real you.
But that’s a side bar and not the main chorus to this step/doc…
The main bar is once you recognize that there are 3 main versions living inside you, then the trick to FREEING YOURSELF (and living a life that is more epic than you could ever imagine) is the following:
Digest the past (aka rescue the child), ground yourself in your true identity (spiritual depths), and pull the future into the now (handle your adult responsibilities with ease).
This, in return, gives rise to 3 types of work:
Inner work = Digesting the past
Spiritual work = Grounding yourself in your true identity
Deep work = Pulling the future into the now
All 3 types of “work” are needed to lead an epic life.
So now the question becomes:
How do you do each type of work…
… and in what order?
I don’t know what is right for you, but here’s my personal take aka what works best for me.
Step 4. Before you do inner work or deep work, make it a point to get a whiff (even the smallest) of your true identity/spiritual nature/real you.
This will save you years of pain and struggle and suffering.
Why?
If you go right into doing inner work, you will take yourself to be the identities of the past (because you have not yet recognized aka experienced your true form).
This, in return, will make it harder for you to clean your inner world and free yourself from the identities stuck in survival…
… because in order for you to disidentify from an identity you have to be at least one level deeper than that identity.
If you remain on the same level, you take it to be who you are and to let go of it would mean death.
So you unconsciously clench and avoid that.
Knowing your True Form, on the other hand, allows you to actually let go of the past because you realize the identities from the past are not who you are, so you can let go with greater ease.
On the flip side:
Believe it or not… but this also applies to deep work aka worldly work.
Most people who don’t know their True Form approach their worldly pursuits in the following manner:
I am a person who is separate from life and I feel like shit, so I’m going to run after/chase X dream so I can fulfill it and feel better.
Consequences of this?
You leave your inner kingdom and become a little mouse full of lack that is always chasing, but never actually achieving what you truly want: Return back to your Kingdom.
Moreover:
This creates many performance issues because when you don’t recognize your True Form, you don’t have access to your true capacities and abilities because you’re stuck at the level of mind.
Instead: You color your actions (or lack thereof) with limiting beliefs, self-images, and world views.
This makes it more difficult (depending on your conditioning) to run up the numbers in business or whatever.
Knowing your True Form, on the other hand, allows you to recognize that you are the Source of all that you seek and the world actually has nothing to offer you (that could add to you).
Instead, it’s just a place to express who and what you truly are, so you can participate in the act of creation for its own sake.
With that in mind:
Instead of taking yourself to be an identity from the past that lives in linear time and runs after goals to get x (i.e. joy/love/power), you start to recognize that you are a fresh presence that arises spontaneously and freely in each and every moment from outside time/space and intrinsic to this real you is all that you once sought from the contents of the video game of life.
This, in return, changes who/what puts in the deep work…
… and how.
Meaning:
Instead of working to get something or to go somewhere, you work simply for its own sake and to express who and what you are.
This, in return, adds another dimension to what you create and ironically is what gives rise to the best results.
So that’s why you want to liberate your True Form first before you engage in inner or deep work.
The question now becomes:
How do you do it?
After all:
Most people spend lifetimes… thousands and thousands on retreats… meditate until they are blue in the face…
But they still don’t get it.
So how can we expect to get it right here, right now?
We can expect to get it with ease because it already exists right here, right now. We just need to make a slight change in our perception, so we can sense what is already the case.
Now before I tell you how to do this, I must say:
When you sense this, it’s not going to seem like a big discovery (at first). It’s not going to seem exciting. It’s not going to come with bells and whistles and fancy colors and spiritual visions.
All that can happen.
But right now it’s not going to.
Instead: It’s going to be basic and simple to grasp.
But don’t let the simplicity fool you.
The simplicity is what makes it powerful.
With that being said:
How can we sense our true form right here, right now?
Here’s how:
Take a moment to close your eyes and pay attention to yourself.
Notice that inside you there are thoughts, feelings, sensations arising.
And normally you identify with these thoughts, feelings, sensations and take them to be the truth of who and what you are.
But if you simply pause right now and ask yourself:
“Are these thoughts continuous?”
“Are these feelings continuous?”
“Are these sensations continuous?”
You’ll quickly realize that they are NOT.
In simpler words: If thoughts were continuous, then you would jump from one thought to another thought immediately and there would be no gap in between the thoughts.
But when you look into your own experience, you can easily sense that in between each thought is a gap, right?
Yes! There’s a gap (no matter how small) aka empty space that exists between and within each and every thought (no matter what the thought is). Moreover: This empty space remains unchanged and unstained by the thoughts. You can think the most nasty, disgusting, vile thought and underneath the thought the same empty space resides. You can think the most beautiful, inspiring, creative thought, but it leaves no residue on the space. It remains free and unchanging and itself.
(Practice this for yourself by thinking the most disgusting thought. And noticing that it has no impact on the space. Practice this for yourself by thinking the most inspiring thought. And noticing that it has no impact on the space.)
Moreover:
This isn’t just true for thoughts, but feelings and sensations too. In between each feeling or sensation is the same empty space that exists whether you’re feeling on top of the world or at the bottom of the ocean.
With that in mind:
You can think of the thoughts, feelings, sensations that arise in your inner world as “fish” and the empty space that resides within and throughout all your thoughts, feelings, sensations as “water”.
Normally fish don’t recognize they’re swimming in water.
Similarly:
Normally humans don’t recognize they’re living in eternal space aka Heaven.
BUT if you recognize the space like you just did…
You recognize this space to be the ever present, eternal “objective” container that houses the entirety of your subjective experience.
Moreover:
This space isn’t just unique to you or bounded.
The same gap aka space you sense in between your thoughts, feelings, sensations is the same space I sense.
(This space is the very substance of life and it runs through and holds every form in existence. Such is why when you do hardcore spiritual practices from the Buddhist tradition for example, you recognize the true nature of every thought, feeling, sensation to be emptiness aka this space.)
What this ultimately means is that:
Our true form is not the separate body with its thoughts, feelings, sensations that exist inside the space, but the space that holds and houses the body and its thoughts, feelings, sensations (the body is just a temporary form this space takes to experience itself).
In other words:
You and I are the same space at our deepest depths.
This depth aka space is our true eternal spiritual nature that was never born and never dies because it exists outside time (this is why it never gets touched or stained by anything that happens in time).
Moreover:
Not only is this space aka deeper spiritual nature “unstained” by the events of our life (regardless of what happens… the space remains the same), but intrinsic to it are various spiritual qualities and dimensions such as oneness, ease, peace, emptiness, awareness, relaxation, love, joy, and creativity.
So the more you experience the gap in between your thoughts, feelings, and sensations, the more you start to open up the space and experience your true form to be characterized with the qualities/dimensions above.
This, in return, is what it actually means to do spiritual work.
Real spiritual work, you see, does not happen in time, but is all about recognizing and opening up the gap in between your thoughts, feelings, and sensations so you can wake up to your timeless nature.
(This is one reason why meditation makes you feel more calm, peaceful, at ease, relaxed, and in joy – you’re making contact with the space in between your thoughts, feelings, sensations aka your true form).
So with all that being said:
If you want to recognize and experience your true form, simply start paying more attention to the gap/space that exists between your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. (Instead of identifying strictly with the thoughts, feelings, and sensations.)
And allow it to touch and impact you.
The more you do, the more you’ll start to realize that all along you took yourself to be a separate person that lives in the world (i.e. a cloud in the sky).
But in actuality:
You’ve been the empty space that houses all of reality (i.e. the sky).
This is the beginning of a life of freedom because the more you bathe in this empty space, the better your life becomes because now instead of identifying with the thoughts, feelings, sensations that are arising inside the space…
You start to recognize your true form as the eternal, free, blissful space that remains itself regardless of what happens.
Such is why we start here.
With that now recognized, it’s time for the next step.
Step 5. Meet the “survival” identities that are stuck inside your field of awareness with compassion, openness, curiosity and zero judgment.
Now that you recognize your true form to be the space instead of what appears inside the space, you can do inner work with greater ease and actually bring to consciousness all the limited identities from the past that are stuck in survival.
[When you recognize your true form to be the space, you recognize that identities arise and pass in this space. But some identities get stuck because we haven’t fully metabolized the experiences they brought with them… so when we identify with these identities (unconsciously), we tend to experience a limited existence. Inner work is thus about digesting these identities so they can leave the space that we are – allowing something new to arise in their place]
How do you do this?
Run a 30-minute meditation session where you simply pay attention to the loving/kind/empty/blissful/peaceful/unstained/free/eternal space that exists within and in between every thought, feeling or sensation.
After the timer expires, you’ll be more in touch with the space instead of your familiar sense of self (i.e. thought/images) which will help you embody more compassion, openness, curiosity, and ease.
From this place, simply ask yourself:
Where in my body do I feel shame?
Where in my body do I feel guilt?
Where in my body do I feel apathy?
Where in my body do I feel grief?
Where in my body do I feel fear?
Where in my body do I feel desire?
Where in my body do I feel anger?
Where in my body do I feel pride?
Don’t ask yourself all these questions at once.
Give yourself proper time and space to work on each.
Maybe you start with shame and give yourself a week.
By asking yourself this question, you start to make the unconscious conscious and start to bring into your awareness the shame that exists inside you. As you do, greet and welcome this shame with open arms. Don’t be ashamed about your shame (and if you are… allow even your shame about your shame to be met with open arms).
Allow the shame to arise like a friend from the past and greet it with compassion. As it arises, you may start having memories and visions of shameful events from your past. This is all fine and well. But simply allow it to actually be. View it as if you’re seated around the dinner table and you’re pulling out a chair for your shame to actually enter the space and take a seat without being judged or ignored.
As you do this and meet the shame from the unconditional, present, kind, and compassionate space that you are…
The shame will start to relax and leave your consciousness.
In other words:
The great secret to doing inner work is the following:
The way to get rid of x (i.e. shame or fear or anger or whatever) is not by resisting it or fighting it or acting it out, but by allowing it to arise fully so you can feel it/face it fully with compassion instead of judgment.
(Remember nothing stains the space that you are so there is fundamentally nothing to fear.)
Once you allow it to arise fully (without trying to get rid of it), the energetic charge inside the shame relaxes…
… and it dissolves back into the empty space that you truly are.
This, in return, liberates and frees your space from continuously manifesting the same old limited identities on repeat.
So that’s how you start to do inner work.
Now moving onto the next step.
Step 6. Infuse your day & your deep work sessions with the love, joy, strength, power, creativity, stillness that characterizes the empty, eternal, blissful space that you truly are.
All breakthrough ideas come not from time or your mind.
But the empty space.
(Intuition is nothing more than accessing the space aka the void in between your thoughts, feelings, sensations.)
So structure your work day with periods of space where you take a break to do nothing, sit on a park bench, meditate, whatever.
Which will allow you to receive more winning ideas.
Moreover:
Infuse your deep work sessions not with your personality and the lack, worry, struggle, doubt, contraction that makes it up…
… but with the love, joy, strength, power, creativity, stillness that characterizes the empty space that you truly are.
In other words:
Use your work not to get x (i.e. power).
But to express the x (i.e. power) that you already are.
This, in return, will change what you touch your work with and since you can only attract what you are…
… and get what you give, the more power you put into your work, the more power you get back.
This is the way, my friend.
This is the way :-)

With all that being said:
You now know how to use the scale to actually raise your consciousness (as a whole) and lead the most epic life possible.
A life of ceaseless creativity (for its own sake) that is lived from your greater depths and free from the conditioning of the past.
